The Best U-pick Flower Farms & Flower Stands in Southern Oregon
Where can I pick flowers now in Southern Oregon?
Summer is finally here, and for the Rogue Valley that means its time to gather up the kids and go pick flowers. The flower season usually begins mid to late June and runs until mid Fall depending on the weather and flower type.
If you have a toddler or young child you want to take out to a farm in Southern Oregon, I think flower farms are a great choice. Unlike fruit, it is very straightforward which flowers are ready to pick. Flowers are typically at the perfect height for littles to pick by themselves, which is great if your kiddo has entered the do it themselves stage. I think this is also a nice activity for teens too.
Most flower farms provide cutting tools for you to use, but you’ll want to bring your own container to transport the flowers home in. My kid isn’t quite old enough to use the sharp shears so I make sure to grab a pair of kids scissors to bring along when I grab my vase. With the safety scissors I feel I can give her more independence in selecting and cutting her own flowers.
U-pick flower farms don’t necessarily take a long time to pick your bouquets, although I try to get my little to walk around and take a closer look at all the different flowers, in their different stages, and talk about how plants grow and what all their parts are called. We typically see bees and butterflies when we go, and often we spot a few more insects hanging around too.
The Rogue Valley has several U-Pick Flower Farms. Some offer one type of flower to pick like sunflowers or lavender. Others offer a variety of flowers to make a custom mix for your flower arrangement. We have one completely FREE U-Pick flower farm in Southern Oregon- but it comes with a catch: you have to pick a second flower arrangement to give away in an effort to spread kindness in our community. I’ll give you more details on that below.
Which farm is the BEST U-PICK Flower Farm in Southern Oregon? Well that entirely depends on what you’re looking for. I’ll give you the rundown on each one to help you narrow down which farms you want to go visit. Honestly though, they are all great but in different ways. I don’t think you can pick a bad one.
U-pick Lavender Farms in Southern Oregon
The first u-pick flowers to bloom in Southern Oregon are lavender. They usually begin to bloom mid-June and run through July. Southern Oregon is always beautiful to me, but getting to walk through the purple lavender fields with the mountains as a backdrop is maybe one of my favorite experiences. Its hard not to get stunning photos of your child with a set up like that. And I’ll mention a few of these farms offer time slots to photographers. They open those dates up for scheduling months before, so if you want to get family photos in the lavender fields, plan ahead. Its popular for a reason.
Southern Oregon Lavender Trail has two weekends it holds lavender festivals at the farms. One in June and one in July. Be sure to look at my Guide to Visiting the Southern Oregon Lavender Trail. Its got everything you need to know.
I’ve put together detailed info on each farm in my Lavender Guide linked above. Here are our u-pick lavender farms in Southern Oregon:
