Preschool Storytime at the Central Point Library
Hours and Location
The Central Point Library is located at 116 S 3rd St, Central Point, OR 97502. Their branch hours are Monday through Wednesday 10-5, Thursday 10-7, Friday 10-5, Saturday 12-5, and closed on Sundays.
Children’s Section and Play Area
The Central Point Library branch has such a lovely children’s area. It’s always clean, tidy, and ready for children to enjoy when we visit. There are usually a few other kids there to play with, and their set up makes it so inviting for young kids to interact with one another.
They have a large selection of children’s books, and they also have board books for the younger kids who aren’t ready for paper pages yet. The children’s section has a Lego style table, a light table, a train table, and a few other items like puzzles and busy boards. Adult seating is comfortable and abundant making this a spot for everyone to enjoy.
Preschool Storytime
The Central Point Library just expanded their story time programs. They’ve offered a babies and wobblers storytime (age 0-36 months) for quite some time but they saw an opportunity to add in a Preschool Storytime for toddlers (age 3-5). This new Preschool Storytime is currently on Thursdays at 11:00AM but check their calendar before you plan your visit.
The Preschool Storytime is held in the meeting room which is near the entrance. The floor has brightly colored cushions laid out over a fun rug. Children (and their adults) gather on the cushions as Storytime begins. (There are tables with adult size chairs in the back of the room if that seating sounds better to your knees and back.) Around three to four stories are read aloud, and the librarian does an amazing job incorporating puppets, musical instruments, and a felt story board. When we attended it was a small group and each kid got to participate quite a bit during each story -with the felt board, they each got to place an animal, with the pop-up book they each got to lift a flap, etc. At the end of the reading segment, children were invited to make an age appropriate craft on the tables in the back. It was a lot to pack into 45 minutes, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness and organization involved in accomplishing all of that.
