Visiting It’s A Process…A Children’s Art Studio

A closer look inside It’s A Process… a children’s art studio in the Rogue Valley

If you’ve haven’t stopped by the new children’s art studio in Jacksonville, Oregon get it on your to do list now! It’s a Process… is designed for children ages 3-10 but older kids enjoy it as well. This kid-friendly business is a process art studio for kids to drop-in and create art. This is the only dedicated kids art studio in Southern Oregon, and the best place for kids to paint and create in the Rogue Valley.

What is Process Art?

I wasn’t familiar with the term ‘process art’ before hearing about their studio. Thankfully their website explained it so nicely:

“While product art focuses on the outcome, process art allows the child to create and explore without an agenda.

This type of art is developmentally appropriate for young children and nurtures critical thinking,  independence, fine motor skills, and social/emotional awareness.

Process art allows children to explore art mediums without the pressure of attaining a certain end result. The goal of process art is to explore, discover and have fun! “

What is the Kids Art Studio Like?

It’s a Process…kids art studio in Jacksonville Oregon has both Indoor and Outdoor Places for kids to play, learn, and create.

Indoor Kids Art Studio Space

The Indoor kids art studio space is such a bright and cheery space for kids to make art and have fun. As you enter the studio, the check-in desk is on the left. You can purchase admission and go over the rules there. They provide kid size aprons and smocks so don’t stress if you didn’t remember to wear your painting clothes.

The main area has a long table set up with chairs and whatever craft activity is set up for the day. If you attend one of their kids art classes, this is where you’ll gather.

Beyond that is a room dedicated to painting. There are a couple of easels ready to go. One uses traditional paper and paint where the other is for more temporary art. At this station, there’s a water bucket with sponge to wipe away your painting and quickly make another. I think this is the equivalent of a dry erase board but with paint instead of markers- but it is very much not a DRY erase board. My kiddo loves anything wet that she can get messy with as she creates, so this was a huge hit with her. There’s also a water color paint station to sit and paint.

The next area of the kids art studio has a light table for drawing or tracing stencils. There’s a coloring wall with an image projected on it. This area even has a large assortment of wooden toys which is so wonderful especially for smaller siblings.

The last room of the kids art studio is the largest and has several different craft stations set up. There’s a table with chairs to create your craft and the walls and shelves are filled with every art supply you can think of: papers, pipe cleaners, beads, popsicle sticks, stickers, ribbons, tape, crayons, markers, etc. I love this space because children have free reign on what to create and what supplies to use. My child loved this part so much she asked me to recreate her own art studio at home after our first visit.

The other end of this large room holds supplies for sewing, crocheting, and felting. There are instructions on how to get started and lots of materials to choose from. This seemed to be a favorite area for older children to enjoy.

Outdoor Kids Art Studio Space

The outdoor area at the kids art studio just opened. Being an outside play space, it’s weather dependent. This is such a lovely place for kids to safely play and create. The fenced-in yard has a huge wooden play structure with slides and a play house for kids to free play and pretend play. There’s a large chalk board area with face cut outs for kids to create some fun artwork and for parents to take an adorable photo.

My kid’s favorite was the clear acrylic paint station where she could paint, wash off with water, and paint again. What I loved is they have thoughtfully provided adult seating in the shade where the parents can let the kids have some independence while they create. They’ve also installed picnic tables so you can have a little snack break in between creating masterpieces.

Does the Kids Art Studio have Classes and Events?

Yes! It’s a Process… kids art studio offers classes and events. Even though they don’t do cookie cutter style art projects, they do have special themed activities. I’ve taken my little to a couple so far. We attended a mommy and me paint class . Every family chose a different animal family to paint with input and guidance from the staff. I’ve also been to a kids paint class where they all painted different monsters. It’s not a painting class where every kid paints different versions of the same image like I’m used to seeing with paint classes. The kids get to decide what they create within the theme.

The children’s art studio offers a wide variety of kids art classes like bubble painting, dinosaur boats, and making slime. They even have a parent’s night out and summer camps. Their kids art classes change monthly so be sure to follow their Facebook or Instagram to know what their current kids art class offerings are.

Kids are welcomed to stay and enjoy the art studio after the craft or paint class is over. With the kids paint classes, we were able to explore the art studio and create some art while our paint layers dried.

It’s a Process… also offers birthday party packages. This is a great choice especially when you want an indoor space with an outdoor play option. Find cake, custom cookies, and other birthday fun on my kids birthday directory.
